How to Keep Studying without Distractions

Updated: Jul 18, 2020

You're on a study marathon: you've been studying for a whopping two hours. However, a noise nearby steals your attention. The noise echoes through your mind. You contemplate whether you should keep reading through this boring material that doesn't seem to hit that sweet spot or whether you should walk over to your phone and see what the noise was about. You agree that you'll only open your phone for a few minutes, that's it. Once you see that TikTok or Instagram logo, time flows by, yet you're still scrolling through your feed or For You Page. Before you know it, it's time for bed.

You've probably right now realized that you could get so much done when you don't get distracted. What if I told you: There is a way to limit yourself from getting distracted so much.

Take Regular breaks.

When you've been studying for hours, make sure to take care of your body, and allow yourself a short break. Take a walk around your neighborhood, drink some water, eat some food, watch a sitcom, it's up to you. However, prevent yourself from opening your phone and set a timer so you don't end up overusing your break. The main goal is to get you to refocus and breathe.

Make sure you're learning in the most interesting way possible.

Flipping through textbooks mindlessly makes it tempting to do something else aside from learning. It's not the best way to keep you hooked and motivated to learn. A way to solve this is to try to add a little more fun or attention hooking activity to your study session. Maybe you could instead watch Youtube videos or play games related to your subject. There are so many resources available on the internet that it's only best to take advantage of that.

Set a ToDo list before your study session with earlier Due Dates.

Sometimes, we don't have an initiative or a visual guide to what to do or study about. Making a To-Do list before you start studying helps put things into an initiative. You'll automatically want to work harder to cross out all of those words on your piece of paper. When you make your To-Do list make sure to put due dates earlier than the ones originally. This not only supports you to do things quickly but it also sharpens your image as a committed student when you submit those assignments quicker than expected.

Put some Music on.

Putting music on is proven to improve cognitive productivity. When you put music on, there's no silence but some sound to spice things up! It hooks your attention more to the assignment on hand. Try putting on some LoFi, instrumentals, jazz, etc. Make sure that there are no lyrics to the music since lyrics tend to distract us when we study.

Studying in a Separate Room.

One of the things I found that are extremely useful to studying productively, is to study in a separate, quiet room from your family. This helps because you're less tempted to get up from your seat and play. It also gives a sense of serenity.

Conclusion:

In conclusion, we should try our best to study productively for good results. Although this post should help you, we support you to do even more thorough research on getting distracted less. The methods and tips we write about here are what we find is helpful. If these methods don't suit you, experiment with different techniques, and surf the internet for more tips.
